The latest WordPress 6.1 update has been officially released, bringing various improvements and enhancements. WordPress 6.1 is a major update that brings with it a variety of improvements and enhancements, including:

  • Improved navigation menus in the Customizer on large screens;
  • Added support for automatic background updates on Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.

Improved Template Options

  • Intuitive – The new templates let you easily configure your website without prior knowledge of HTML or CSS. Choose your style from our visual drag-and-drop editor (or check out the preview).
  • User Friendly – You can now create beautiful websites with no coding experience! The Stylemix wizard will walk you through each step of designing your site so that anyone can build great-looking sites in minutes.

Border Support for Columns

In the page editor now you can design the column layout elements with a flexible Border option. Apart from selecting the colour to borders for a single column, you can link up the group of columns and define the border colour for the entire group.

And if still feel the lack of provided style options, you can easily modify theme.json file with CSS code lines.

This is not the only new thing in the page template design. You can manipulate the dimensions, visualize margin and padding, customize popover, control block spacing, and much more, which engages you and save your time. 

Content-Only Editing

Content-only editing is a new feature that allows users to edit their website’s content without worrying about the design. This is especially useful for beginners who want to get a feel for WordPress without worrying about design aesthetics.

For example, let’s say you have an article on your site with a title, subtitle, and body text. With content-only editing, you can click on each one individually and make changes to them as if they were separate entities from each other—even though they’re all part of one post!

To unlock this mode, you will need to first enable this parameter in Code Editor. Simply navigate to three dots button on the right corner of the post and select Code Editor. In the expanded editor you will need to type the following code:

"templateLock" : "contentOnly",

Make sure the code is placed in the correct place.

Then in the specific element, you can find Modify option to make the change explicitly to the content inside the block.

Improved Block Locking

This feature has been added to prevent unwanted changes to your website content. You can now lock blocks on your website so that other users cannot edit them. This can come in handy if someone is editing a block you don’t want them to be editing or if another user keeps adding spam comments or content in a particular section of your site.

Updated Quote and List Blocks

List and quote blocks are now available in WordPress 6.1, and they’re pretty awesome! You can use these blocks anywhere you normally place text in your posts or pages. You can also customize the styling of these blocks by using built-in options or adding custom CSS.

Design Tools Consistency

As developers, we know that consistency is key. And yet, when it comes to WordPress design tools, there’s always been a certain lack of consistency in how designers approach their work.

Previously when using the Divi Builder, for example, you were forced to use inline styles or write CSS in the Custom CSS box of your page settings; both methods are not ideal for one reason: they aren’t user-friendly. The new Design Tools panel eliminates these limitations by providing users with a more intuitive interface for customizing their content and building pages without worrying about writing CSS or adding inline styles manually.

Updated Preview Button

The WordPress 6.1 update has brought a new feature that allows users to preview their posts before publishing them on the site. You can now access this new tool from the WordPress dashboard by clicking on “Preview,” which will open up a new tab or window with a live preview of your content. This means you can see how your post will look once published—and make any necessary edits before posting it to your website!

While we’re on typography, WordPress 6.1 has also introduced a new feature called “fluid typography.” The idea is simple: fonts can respond to different screen sizes by changing their size and line length to suit any device or user. For example, a large screen would use an 18-point font with long lines, while a small screen would use an 8-point font with short lines. This is accomplished through WordPress’s new CSS grid system, which uses percentage-based values instead of fixed pixel measurements.
