Getting Started

Installation of the theme

Installation of the theme

To install this theme you must have a working version of WordPress already installed. For information regarding the installing of the WordPress platform, please see the WordPress Codex - http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

Installation

When you are ready to install a theme, you must first upload the theme files and then activate the theme itself. The theme files can be uploaded in two ways:
FTP Upload - Using your FTP client, upload the non-zipped theme folder into the /wp-content/themes/ folder on your server
WordPress Upload - Navigate to Appearance -> Add New Themes -> Upload. Go to browse, and select the zipped theme folder. Hit Install Now and the theme will be uploaded and installed.
Some webservers have a limitation for the maximum allowed size of files being uploaded to them and that value may be exceeded by the theme file. If that is the case you can receive an error that states: The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini. or Are you sure you want to do this? Please try again. If you get any of these errors please increase the values of upload_max_filesize and post_max_size directives in your php.ini file to 20M or follow the Installation via FTP section described above.
Once the theme is uploaded, you need to activate it. Go to Appearance -> Themes and activate your chosen theme.
After that you need to activate the pre-installed plugins:
1. WPBakery Visual Composer
2. Ultimate Addons for Visual Composer
3. Revolution Slider
4. Easy Google Fonts
5. Contact Form 7
All the plugins which are not free come under our Extended License, so you don’t need to pay for their license to use them. Some of them might have messages requiring activation, but they are already activated on our side. No purchase code needed. When using them under our license you will need to wait for the plugin updates in our regular theme updates. If you want to be able to auto update them from wp-admin, you will need to buy your own personal license for that.

Setting up the Homepage

Setting up the Homepage

To set up the homepage you must create a new page, you can do so by navigating to Pages > Add New.
The title for this page can be up to your liking. Under Settings > Reading please setup the new Homepage.
Actually you can set any page to be your homepage. Once it’s created you can compose your homepage layout. The design layout is created under Bootstrap framework which is split into 12 columns grid. Each widget has its own maximum and minimum widths, so depending on that you can work out the layout for each page.
As you can see the homepage just like any the page is now 100% constructible out of the modules we have in Visual Composer. The homepage can be created by any element in Visual Composer.

The blog page can have the sidebar on the left, right or no sidebar, and the contents of the sidebar, as described above, are set under the Appearance > Widgets.
You can use shortcodes in text editor while creating a Blog post content.
Blogs can be posted by someone who has the access to the backend of the site with admin or author role. Anyway that person will be able to log into the WordPress panel and have a user profile.

The contact us page is built via Contact 7 plugin. Contact module is a usual module, which is setup via Visual Composer and can be added in Pages.

Menu

Menu

Now after update the menus on Bon Appetit you have 2 ways of creating menus. Either you create menu items as Custom Post types named Dishes.
And then all you have to do is insert the Module into the Page.
The settings for the module are
1) Here you choose how your menus page would look. You have 4 main options:
Grid
Tiles
Large
Default
When you choose Default view, you have Options to choose whether to show it as plain list or as tabs or as columns – and choose the number of columns.
2) You can enable or disable the anchor navigation in the menus depending on if your page is too long to be convenient to scroll through.
3) You can limit the number of dishes to show in order that all the columns or grids would show equal if you like that.
4) Sometimes you need to create a brief versions of your existing menu for that you can set tags for the needed dishes and then filter them on the page by the tag.
The other way is static Menu is created as a page by means of Visual Composer, basically it is one type of shortcodes which you can add on any page, you are looking for an element called “Dish”.
So basically, you just create a bunch of dishes – which are menu items which are placed under Headings – which are menu categories.
This section has now been updated, all menu display options have been now separated into independent modules, so now you insert Dishes- tabs, or dishes – anchor list as a module.
Each module has settings on separate tabs: number of columns and number of the dishes
Filter by tags:
Sorting options for the dishes you are outputting on the page:
And ordering option for categories on the page if there are any, you just need to insert id numbers for each category. In the bottom, you have an option to filter by just one category.
We made this update based on recommendations from our dearest customers! Thank you for your insights! We hope we made the theme more convenient for you to use!
